Admissions to Research Programmes (PhD and MS-Research) at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) – Year 2019

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras – IITM), invites applications for admissions to Research Programmes (PhD, MS-Research and Direct MS+PhD). IIT Madras – Research Admissions 2019 is open to Science and Engineering Graduates.

PhD in Engineering / Science / Humanities and Social Sciences

The research programmes are offered in Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management disciplines under regular, part-time and external schemes of IIT Madras. If you have masters degree in Engineering / Science / Humanities, along with valid score in a national level qualifying examination (like GATE or UGC-JRF/NET/CSIR-JRF or equivalent qualification in the relevant area), you are eligible to do PhD in the relevant field. There are exemptions in qualifying national level examinations for exceptional candidates.

Direct PhD for candidates with BE/BTech/BS(4 Years) with exceptional academic Record

Candidates with B.E / B.Tech / BS(4 year) for direct admission to Ph.D. programme will be admitted to a two-degree (M.S+Ph.D) programme. Meritorious students can upgrade to the PhD programme in the same department. The students will recieve two degrees (MS + PhD) upon successful completion of the programme.

M.S. – Research Programme (Engineering / Management / Entrepreneurship)

In order to do M.S. (By Research), candidates should have Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology, or Masters degree in Science / Humanities, along with valid score in a national level post graduate admission qualifying examinations such as GATE/CAT, in the relevant field.

Financial Assistance (HTRA)

• For Ph.D./Direct admission to M.S.+Ph.D./Upgraded to Ph.D. : Rs. 31,000 per month for the first two years. Rs. 35,000 per month for the subsequent 3 years.
• For M.S.: Rs. 12,400 per month
